Family Counseling Center Staff
At CFCC, we are
dedicated to providing competent, compassionate, and affordable
Christian counseling. We use an integration of Biblical spiritual
principles and sound psychological concepts, in order to help bring
comfort, healing, and resolution to troubled lives, while bringing
glory to God. Our staff at CFCC includes Licensed Professional
Counselors (LPC), LPC Interns (LPCI), and Student Interns. Our
therapists have a sense of ministry and integrity that enables them to
provide hope for hurting people.
Licensed
Professional Counselors
A Licensed
Professional Counselor is one who has a Master's degree in Counseling,
Psychology, or a related field, has had 3000 hours of supervised
therapy training, and has passed the Texas State Licensure Board
Exams. We currently have three LPCs at our Center.
Dona Benz
Dona
Ragsdale Benz, MS, LPC, DAPA, CCFC, CISM received a Bachelor's degree
in Psychology from the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson.
She earned a Master's degree in Counseling, with an emphasis in
Community Health, from Texas A&M University-Commerce, Texas. Her
master's thesis topic was "Divorce, Remarriage, and Stepparenting."
Dona currently is studying for a doctorate in Educational Ministries
at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Dona is licensed by
the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and is
certified as an LPC Supervisor. Dona has a special burden to
perpetuate the presence of Christ-like counselors in this country. One
of Dona's projects is to provide a quality, comprehensive training
program for educating students and interns who aspire to become
licensed Christian therapists. Dona has gained state certification as
an LPC Supervisor to assist LPC Interns aiming for licensure. She uses
the supervision for training new counselors and for providing
consultation for established therapists. Dona also serves as site
supervisor for students in practicum classes at area universities. She
published an article about supervision in A.A.C.C.'s "Christian
Counseling Connection" in 2002. Dona founded CFCC in 1991. She
serves as Executive Director, therapist, and LPC Supervisor. In
addition to working at CFCC, Dona became Associate of Counseling at
Mimosa Lane Baptist Church of Mesquite in 1994. Dona makes counseling
available for church members and for the community at large. Staff
consultation for MLBC and other area churches is offered. Dona's
expertise includes being a spiritual and theological issues counselor
for both Christians and non-Christians. Dona has been a speaker at
special seminars and women's conferences. Her therapy specialty is
with individuals, including those needing assistance with
relationships, parenting and stepparenting training, blended families,
depression, anxiety, grief, abuse, post-traumatic stress, anger
management, marriage and family counseling, custody mediation, and
other issues. Dona takes special joy in offering Life Coaching,
mentoring, and theological explorations. She also is certified for
assisting with Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). Dona's
desire to teach about Christ and His ways is not limited to therapist
supervision and counseling sessions. She also teaches and lectures in
workshops and classes, and has written and presented sixteen
life-enriching seminars. Dona has presented the classes and workshops
in churches, businesses, and a residential treatment center. Dona can
provide assessment instruments, including the Myers-Briggs personality
preferences survey, for personal and vocational exploration and
treatment.
Laurie Hindman
Laurie
Hindman has over 16 years of experience in working with individuals,
children, adolescents, and their families. Most of her experience has
been in a pastoral counseling setting, which has allowed her to deal
with spiritual issues affecting clients.
Prior to starting
her career as a counselor, Laurie worked as an elementary school
teacher. She received her Master's Degree in Counseling from Texas
Women's University in Denton, Texas, in 1989, and became a Licensed
Professional Counselor in 1991. Prior to working at Christian Family
Counseling Center, Laurie served as a counselor/therapist at
Crossroads Samaritan Counseling Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Laurie recently
began offering Equine (Horse) Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) to her
clients. She is certified at Level 1 in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
by EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association). Laurie is
using her skills of interpreting horse behavior to assist people
towards growth and healing. Programs can be designed for groups of
students or adults wanting some psychological support, and for those
with special needs. EAP can help them apply productive life skills,
enhance social skills, and assist in learning new, effective
life-changing strategies. She is enjoying combining her desire to help
people with her love for horses.
Laurie enjoys the
satisfaction of assisting individuals with various emotional
challenges in their lives, and appreciates the ministry opportunities
afforded as a counselor/therapist at Christian Family Counseling
Center.
Russ Killian
Russ
Killian is a Licensed Professional Counselor who provides both
individual and marriage and family counseling. He attended Abilene
Christian University in Abilene, Texas, where he received a Bachelor
of Science degree in Bible Ministry.
During his time in
Abilene, Russ served as an Outreach Minister at an area church. He
also became involved in several other ministry efforts. These
associations included teaching marriage and parenting classes at a
local prison to inmates and their families.
After moving to the
Metroplex, Russ attended Amberton University in Garland, Texas. There,
he received a Master of Arts in Counseling. While completing his
graduate degree, he served as a Couples Ministry leader at a local
church.
Russ has been
married to Staci for 14 years. They are both certified facilitators of
the Family Dynamics Marriage-Enrichment Seminar, which is based on the
highly acclaimed book, His Needs/Her Needs. Together, Russ and Staci
share a passion for helping married couples discover the type of
relationship that God intended for wedded couples to enjoy.
Licensed
Professional Counselor Intern
An LPC Intern is
one who has received a Master's degree in Counseling, psychology, or a
related field, and is completing 3000 hours of supervised work before
sitting for State Board Licensure Exams. We have one LPCI at CFCC.
Junie Harrison
Junie
Harrison is a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Education from
Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. Her research project
was about At-Risk Teens. Junie completed a Master of Education with a
concentration in Counseling from Texas Tech University in Lubbock,
Texas. She specializes in working with pre-teen and young teenaged
students. In addition to working at CFCC, Junie works for "In The
City for Good," coordinating education, counseling, and relief
efforts with multiple churches in south Dallas.
Student
Intern
A Student Intern is
a pupil aspiring to graduate with a Master's degree in counseling or
related field from an area institution. Students can receive education
while using CFCC as their required counseling site. Interns are
instructed concerning counseling technique, ethics, and professional
conduct. They must be enrolled in a master's level practicum class at
a university, seminary, or college. CFCC does not presently have
student interns.
